Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment
Our Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment considers intellectual abilities, cognitive abilities, attentional abilities, and social abilities to determine if ASD is an appropriate diagnosis for the individual being assessed. ASD assessment is available for children, adolescents, and adults.
The assessment can be completed in one day. However, the testing is challenging, so some individuals may benefit from having the testing divided over multiple days.
We need to see a baseline (the minimum amount the individual can accomplish) and a ceiling (the limits of their abilities). Consider assessment akin to testing the strength of any material: we need to see the person’s limitations to make recommendations for them effectively.
Please note:
--With all assessments, individuals must be fluent in English to provide accurate results.
-- In situations where a custody arrangement is in place with clients under the age of majority, both parents must provide written consent to the assessment process prior to testing commencement.
Testing Day
The testing component of the assessment is typically completed in one day. We begin at 9:30 am and conclude around 3 or 4 pm. We can split this appointment between two days (e.g., two mornings) if you prefer.
Appointments occur in our Burlington office: 3228 South Service Road, Suite 101. There is ample parking on the West side of the building. Enter through the West Wing doors, and we are just to the right of the entrance.
The session begins with a one-hour developmental history spanning from pre-birth to the present. This history also includes a family history for both parents, if possible. Once this history is completed, testing will begin.
We take a half-hour lunch around 12:30 pm. Feel free to bring a light meal, but as this is a very challenging day, it is usually best to go out for lunch, taking a break from the office space. After lunch, testing will resume.
Post-Testing:
After the assessment testing is wrapped up, we provide questionnaires for you and a family member or close friend to take home and complete. Once those questionnaires have been returned, we arrange a one-hour feedback appointment. This is held virtually and booked about four weeks after our office has received completed testing/questionnaires.
Feedback Appointments
A virtual one-hour feedback session is booked about 6-8 weeks after the completed assessment day and questionnaires have been received. Timing depends on the availability of feedback appointments. In the session, you will be given an explanation of your results, your diagnosis, and a rundown of major recommendations for you. To keep costs down, this session is held with our psychometric staff, not the psychologist. If you wish to meet with the psychologist, just let us know. There is an extra fee for her time. After the feedback session, you will receive a pdf of your report, and the account has been settled. We do not communicate with schools or doctors directly. Please send the report to them for further assistance.
Fees
The total fee for the Combined Assessment is $2,400.00. This payment is divided into two installments due on the testing day and one on the feedback day. Each installment is $1,200.00. We accept Visa, MasterCard, electronic transfers, and cash.
Extended Health Care Benefits
If you have extended health coverage, please note that insurance companies often provide a specific amount of coverage per individual in the family per year. Since family members are involved in the assessment process, we can issue receipts for some of the assessment costs under them.
For example, we can create receipts for the history taking, report, and feedback appointments under a partner or parents. They attend these meetings, providing information for the report and receiving information about the diagnosis. This allows you greater coverage. Only the testing time needs to go under the individual being assessed.
When inquiring about benefits, you will be asking if you are covered for the services of a Psychologist or Psychological Services. You can generally find this information under the Paramedical Services portion of your plan. Any fees not covered by extended health care coverage can be claimed under the medical expenses portion of your tax return. Please be aware that payment must be received before we can issue receipts for reimbursement from your provider. We cannot submit receipts directly to your provider on your behalf.
Cancellations
If you reschedule at any time, there is no cost. There is no cost if you cancel at least two (2) days in advance. If you cancel with less than two (2) days’ notice, there is a charge of two (2) hours at $180 per hour. And if you begin the assessment but do not continue, you pay for the hours used (including scoring).
Also, be aware that one of the tests (the WISC) can only be done once every two (2) years. Therefore, if you begin an assessment but choose not to follow through to completion, you will not be able to be assessed again for two (2) years unless by our office.
