Shift The Conversation
Learning disabilities are not a flaw to fix. They are part of the rich tapestry of human diversity. And the more we talk about them, the more we realize difference is not the opposite of ability—it’s a different kind of ability.
Everyone has different gifts. Celebrate yours. Celebrate your loved ones.
The dyslexic brain often sees the whole picture rather than the parts. They have incredible pattern recognition and problem-solving abilities. Dyslexic people are able to think outside of the box and create unique solutions to challenges. All of these superpowers also make them incredible entrepreneurs, engineers, and artists.
Unfortunately, our brains are hardwired to retain the negative, so we need to work harder to accentuate the positive.

Did you know that people will remember one negative comment for significantly longer than they will remember 10 positive comments? For children, we often state this as: “It takes 10 positive comments to overcome one negative one.”
Children with ADHD or learning disabilities hear more negative comments than the average child. Hearing that they have positive traits is necessary for their self-esteem. And, they need to hear this often.
So, let’s speak up. Celebrate and state the positives. Let’s normalize the conversation. Let’s make space for every kind of mind to feel seen, heard, and valued.
Because breaking the stigma starts with saying aloud:
“This is who I am—and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, here are my strengths… –”
